My first spray paint project!

I have been toying with the idea of trying my hand at restoring old furniture or repainting them to give them a fresh new look but never had the will to follow through until now. My husband and I have been living in a rented apartment for years and it never felt like home. We really love the flat - beautiful suuny, airy, large place but it was never ours. So I always bought furniture pieces with our future home in mind which meant that I only bought the basics because we had no idea what type of home we would buy. We have a few classic pieces that look fantastic as they are but there a few generic pieces that could do with a touch up or a completely different colour.

We recently became proud owners of a beautiful home and the first thing I did was dust off the folder on my desk called ‘my home’ and started looking through the hundreds of pictures I had accumulated over the last few years - my mood folder. I landed up browsing through my bookmarks and fell through the looking glass, soon immersed in the blog world of DIY projects.

I have always been amazed at how many everday, average home owners transformed their homes into luxurious, warm and stylish havens with a little creativity and a lot of elbow grease. Soon I was itching to sand, spray paint, hammer, upholster, paint!! Okay okay so I got a bit carried away. I decided to start small - a photo frame. How hard could it be?

Having found a grey metallic frame that I wanted to paint black, I made my very first trip to Master Builders Warehouse to pick up some supplies. I expected a lot of hardware at the hardware store (what else could there possibly be?) but I didn’t realise the sheer variety of goods or how big the place was. It was ginormous! Plants, furniture, shower stalls, lights, chandeliers, tiles, paint, paint and more paint!

So after exploring the warehouse megacity aisle by aisle, it was time for me to pick my jaw off the ground and find my supplies.

- Black Spray Paint - check
- Grey Spray Primer - check
- Mask - chweck
- Goggles - check
- Gloves - check
- Mutton/Tack cloth - check
- 200 & 300 grit sand paper - check

Armed with all my supplies, I headed home, ready to take on my first project. That was almost three weeks ago. Since then every weekend has been cold, wet and miserable.

I am hoping that this weekend will be warm, sunny and perfect for some light sanding and some wannabe-spray-painting work.

Updates to follow!
