I have been toying with the idea of trying my hand at restoring old furniture or repainting them to give them a fresh new look but never had the will to follow through until now. My husband and I have been living in a rented apartment for years and it never felt like home. We really love the flat - beautiful suuny, airy, large place but it was never ours. So I always bought furniture pieces with our future home in mind which meant that I only bought the basics because we had no idea what type of home we would buy. We have a few classic pieces that look fantastic as they are but there a few generic pieces that could do with a touch up or a completely different colour.

Home Decor II: The DIY Tv Stand!
June 3rd, 2008 — Home Decor, Lifestyle
As I mentioned in an earlier post, we had purchased a D.I.Y TV stand which needed to be assembled when we got home from our very successful shopping trip. My sister (henceforth known as FF), who is staying with us for a while, was chomping at the bit to play handyman. The engineer in her couldn’t resist the challenge. TD appointed himself the overseer and I appointed myself head designer.
A successful weekend!

After a hefty breakfast & two hours of serious weekly-series-catch-up session, it was time to head out for a day of shopping to source pieces for my home decor project. I managed to rope TD in and get him all excited about the prospect of a clean, elegant looking lounge. TD and I both dislike long shopping trips, we are the ‘zip-in-zip-out’ type so we don’t really get the whole ‘walk around the mall for an entire day’ thing & shopping malls don’t usually leave us feeling warm and fuzzy. But Saturday was a different story, I came to the realisation that I love shopping malls, I love the idea of having a gazillion furniture stores under one roof!
Buying vs Making?

I stumbled across Mr B’s Carpenters while searching for interesting, stylish, don’t-break-my-bank-balance furniture stores and I wonder if this will work out cheaper? Especially considering all the furniture pieces that I like seem to be set on breaking my bank balance!
Home Decor Project

I am done living like a student.
That is it. Time to start making a home out of my flat. I have always wanted to spice up my flat and get a theme going to bring a classic, timeless feel to it but I just couldn’t be bothered to put in the effort. But after weeks of coming home and feeling like I was walking into a student digs with sparse furnishing and no character, I have decided that it is time to invest time & energy into decorating my flat without having to eat salty crackers for the rest of the year.
