Week 2 of my exercise plan!

Very quick update: I have slapped my inner lazy voice silly and kept to the plan! I am feeling great, have way more energy and this week I will be adding 20 minutes of strength training as well to get those muscles really working.  Oh also, I am trying my hand at indoor climbing this week and I have my first introductory class this coming Wednesday!  Looking forward to it and hopefully, I can actually pull my weight up the climbing surface without passing out.  Thankfully I don’t have a fear of heights … that I know of at least!

Fate II

Following on from my previous post, I landed back in South Africa, feeling a little depressed about being here all by myself as I had left India early and the rest of my family were only joining me two weeks later. As I mentioned earlier, after a six year separation, my father rejoined our family during the holidays back in India. I was not happy at the turn of events and it seemed like he was going to play a role in my life from the moment I landed back in South Africa. You see, the airport was 120km away from my home town, so my father had organized for one of his friends to pick me up from the airport. During the separation, my father lived in a town 45 minutes away from ours and this friend of his was going to take me back there so that I could get my father’s car and drive it back to my home. The town my father lived in was the ass end of nowhere. The most excitement that town ever experienced was the arrival and departure of the train. Despite my distaste at being forced to accept my father’s interference, I bit down my attitude and played nice - the guy that picked me up was a sweet old man and it wasn’t his fault after all.

Fate

We are currently addicted to “How I Met Your Mother”! Fortunately we started watching it after Season 3 ended which meant we could spend weekends with buckets of hot chocolate/tea, running “How I met Your Mother”-marathons. This is the ultimate way to spend a relaxing weekend.

“How I Met Your Mother” is about how a series of events in the main character’s life brought him to the point where he meets his future wife. It got me thinking about my own life, if and how fate had played a role in it. Being Indian, I think the idea of fate is something you grow up with. Often, Indian parents attribute bad events, especially, to fate/destinty/’that’s the way it was meant to be’ type reasons. I am a bit of a skeptic, I would like to think that had I not taken a certain path or made certain decisions, my life, while different would probably have turned out fine. But that was before I met TD. Since then, I cannot begin to imagine what my life would have been like had I not met him, which made me think about what part fate might have played in my life.

The big meet up!

I am all stressed out.  Four and a half years worth of stress is not an easy thing to deal with.  Even though these have been some of the best years of my life, in the background my thoughts always turned to the day when I would have to tell my folks about TD and about us living together.  As a family we have had many problems, we have been through some serious family dividing issues.  Surviving these issues has made us a very close knit family.

Hosting, Tweaking and Living in Sin!

Wow! The last two weeks have been a flurry of activity! I decided to make the move from wordpress-hosting to self-hosting and I felt all adult and stuff.  The decision to move was akin to moving out of my parents’ house - home cooked meals vs self-cooked meals and possibly dying of food poisoning. Laundry service (aka maid) vs doing your own damn laundry and possibly shrinking all my clothes. Paying for my own stuff and possibly going broke (you mean I am actually going to have to pay for all this stuff now?!) - so many considerations to take into account! In the end I came to the same conclusion about self-hosting (sounds so much like self-medicating) as I did with moving out - it was time to grow up!  Nothing like a good few months, surviving on salty crackers in a ground floor hell hole of a flat infested with roaches to make a woman out of you!

Hello! My name is …

I was reading through my blog, doing some cleaning up, checking that posts were categorized, tagged, waxed and shined when I realized that I didn’t really introduce myself in this blog, I just signed up, set it up and followed an overwhelming urge to put into words what I was feeling at that moment in time.

Mah Peeps!

This week has been pretty emotional so I am going to lighten the mood a little and talk about the characters I have introduced into my blog.  When I started this blog, I knew that I would have to mention the people in my life as they play a significant role in my daily life and the way I view the world.  Naturally, after bringing up the possibility of becoming a character in my blog, the first reaction was “You better not use my name!!”.  So I decided to come up with humorous apt nick names for these wonderful people.   I am sure you have been wondering what the abbreviations I have used stand for, so here is a quick guide.

Forced Reflection

Yesterday, NN’s father passed away.

I was there when she got the news and I cannot begin to express the anguish and pain I witnessed on her face.  Her world had been ripped apart and there was nothing anyone could do to make it better.

Friendships

Eighteen months ago, a sweet, quiet shy girl (henceforth known as NN) joined our team at work.  We sat at the same desk for weeks and never really said anything to each other except at lunchtime.   At lunchtime, which we both tended to have in front of our computers, we had a moment of communication only to find out what the other was having for lunch.  After which, we both went back to our respective worlds of work..and silence.
